For homework tonight, scholars need to read chapter 12 of The Lightning Thief and make a list (on looseleaf paper) of all the allusions that they can find in this chapter. There should be at least 3 allusions on the list.

The Fridge is the newest addition to the 6th grade ELA classroom. It's where we hang the work we're proud of. Because ECMS is all about achievement and progress, The Fridge is not ONLY for hanging up assessments that earned 90s and 100s (although those are amazing achievements!). It's also for hanging up any work that shows outstanding progress!
This week, the Purple cohort KILLED IT on The Lightning Thief End-of-Unit 1 Assessment. If you see Derek, Zaire, Niezea, Jordan, Ethan, Kaden, or Malique in the hallway, please congratulate them on their outstanding achievement and progress! For homework tonight, scholars need to read Chapter 9 in The Lightning Thief. There are no Purpose for Reading questions for this chapter, but scholars will still be held accountable for reading Chapter 9.
Scholars will engage in their End-of-Unit Assessment for Unit 1 of The Lightning Thief on Tuesday, 2/27 and Wednesday, 3/1.
Tuesday, 2/27: Part I: Scholars will need their copy of The Lightning Thief and "The Hero's Journey," Acts 1-3. They will annotate the texts to find evidence that answers the following question: How do Percy's Experiences in The Lightning Thief align with "The Hero's Journey?" They will record their evidence on the test paper provided. Wednesday 3/1: Part II: Scholars will use the evidence they collected in Part I to write a paragraph that answers the following question: How do Percy's Experiences in The Lightning Thief align with "The Hero's Journey?" The paragraph should include all of the criteria from the Criteria Checklist. Scholars will be able to use their copy of The Lightning Thief and "The Hero's Journey" for this part of the assessment. They will also use the evidence they recorded on Part I. Over winter break, scholars need to complete their Winter Break Assignments so that they can continue practicing the skills we're learning in class. The assignment is due on Monday, February 27 when scholars return from break.
