In ELA block, scholars read an article about the superhero Nighthawk and discussed the importance of diversity among superheroes. Since Nighthawk was a superhero who fought racism and police brutality -- two societal issues that are hard to talk about -- scholars were given the assignment of creating their own superhero that combats a different societal issue.
Scholars designed their own superhero on Marvel.com. They were also given time in class to write a short biography of their superhero and begin writing Issue #1 of the comic book that their superhero stars in. They are to complete Issue #1 this weekend, as it is due on Monday, November 7. Projects will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the ELA classroom.
If your scholar did not get to finish designing his or her superhero, s/he may access the design tool in the link above. The image should be saved as a PDF and attached to an e-mail to Ms. Russo.
