In ELA block, scholars read an article about the superhero Nighthawk and discussed the importance of diversity among superheroes. Since Nighthawk was a superhero who fought racism and police brutality -- two societal issues that are hard to talk about -- scholars were given the assignment of creating their own superhero that combats a different societal issue.
Scholars designed their own superhero on Marvel.com. They were also given time in class to write a short biography of their superhero and begin writing Issue #1 of the comic book that their superhero stars in. They are to complete Issue #1 this weekend, as it is due on Thursday, November 10. Projects will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the ELA classroom.

If your scholar did not get to finish designing his or her superhero, s/he may access the design tool in the link above. The image should be saved as a PDF and attached to an e-mail to Ms. Russo.

- A title - what is your comic book called?
- Basic background information about your superhero
- what is his/her real name?
- what does s/he do for a living when s/he is not being a superhero?
- where does s/he live?
- what crime does s/he fight?
- why doe s/he fight this crime? what happened in his/her life that made him/her want to fight this problem?
- What is your superhero doing when s/he hears that there is crime to fight?
- What is the crime that is happening?
- What does your superhero do to stop it from happening?
Please also follow these guidelines:
- minimum of 1 page, single-spaced
- use your best effort with spelling and grammar
- neatness counts
- if you type your story:
- size 12 font, times new roman, single-spaced
